It has taken several hours to review the raw footage for this years Y.M.CA. Dance Recital video production. We spent additional time selecting the best views from our four HD cameras. We really got some great film. We are excited about the end result.
Andrew Kadtke our graphics designer is busy creating 3D menus for the DVD / Blu-Ray production while Joe Kadtke is processing (encoding) the video footage to the HD format required for non-linear video production editing. We are using professional production software to give this production the clarity, and quality that best enhances each individuals dance performance.
A little about Blu-Ray and DVD Discs.
In most ways, Blu-ray is fairly similar to DVD. The players look the same, the discs look the same, and even the disc menus are similar.
Blu-ray brings three major improvements over DVD: better image quality, better sound quality, and more special features. All three are made possible by the larger storage capacity of Blu-ray, which is capable of storing 25GB of information on a single Blu-ray Disc, compared with DVDs, which can hold about 4.7GB.

This difference will be noticeable to you if you purchased a DVD production vs a Blu-Ray production. The DVD production will have two DVD's in the production package. The Blu-Ray will only have one because it holds six times as much information.
HD Video Encoding is Complete July 12, 2011
Tonight Joe Kadtke burned the mid-night oil and completed encoding the HD video in preparation for beginning the post production process. Encoding is the process of changing the raw footage filmed at the live performance so that it can be manipulated on a digital timeline making the production a seamless and enjoyable film to watch.
July 19, 2011 Production Progress update.
Tonight our graphics artist Andrew Kadtke and I (Joe Kadtke/production manager) are reviewing the first eleven performances in the editing software. We are making small adjustments to each performance now while we are still producing. Now is the time for this to happen. Andrew has nearly completed the custom case labels and has completed the CD labels. They really look great

In each production there are hundreds of commands which must be affixed manually in order to get the proper effect that satisfies the producer. This is time consuming but very rewarding for the production staff. To have a video production completed artistically and professionally is a great challenge and also a great thrill because we know that you will be pleased with the final result.
POST PRODUCTION PERFORMANCES ARE COMPLETE August 12, 2011
I (Joe Kadtke) completed performances 12 through the finale. The kids did a great job in there dancing and I am very proud of the way all of the performances have turned out. My wife and I went on vacation to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary. I have been a little slow on the updates. My apologies for the delay.
Update on Your Video August 12, 2011
My wife Nancy and I had the privilege of going to Yellowstone National Park the last two weeks. If you have not been there, put that on your to do list in the future. What an amazing and beautiful place. In the mean time Andrew who is in charge of graphics and special effects completed his major portion of the Y. M.C.A. dance recital production. In addition he proofed the entire video for any corrections and reprocessed those that needed fixing. We never complete a project without a second opinion and review.
Right on Schedule August 12, 2011
We are very close to our eight week delivery date for your 2011, Y.M.C.A. dance recital video production. As this is being written the production is encoding the entire production into an authored Blu-Ray format. This process started last night at 11:00PM Thursday, August 11, and is nearly completed. It is now 5:18 August 12th and still processing. The second step will be to encode the entire project into DVD format. Even though trans-coding is a slow process, it is the computer that does all of the work. It just has to be monitored. We will continue to keep you informed.

The Blu-Ray videos are complete.
We are now authoring Disc #1 of the DVD video production. All of the custom case designs have been created and printed ready to cut and insert into the cases. Tomorrow Disc #2 will by authored.
